The process of selecting the new Secretary -General of the World Tourism Organization began months ago with the clever arrival of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Using the capacity of the embassies, multilateral meetings and a specialized review of the candidates’ records, a detailed and coherent framework for the country’s position was formulated.
The Iranian delegation, chaired by Anushirvan Mohseni Bandpi, the country’s deputy tourism deputy, played an active role in shaping this consensus in official and marginal meetings, while consolidating Iran’s position as an influential actor in world tourism equations.
The conversation with key candidates, consultations with member states, and analysis of the scenarios ahead, were among the measures that consolidated Iran’s position in the process.
