Mohammad Nabi Shahiki at the Gulf Science and Technology Park meeting, hosted by the Persian Gulf Science and Technology Park, said: “The share of the sea economy in GDP is only 2 %, while studies and estimates can increase by 5 %.”
The Deputy Minister of Technology and Innovation of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, referring to Iran’s unique capacities and advantages in the field of maritime economics, said: Despite having more than 5,000 kilometers of water border, the country’s offshore capacity has not yet been fully exploited.
He added: According to global studies on the value added of the maritime economy, about 2 percent of it is for maritime tourism, 2 percent to offshore oil and gas, 2 percent to logistics, 8 percent to offshore energy and 2 percent to biotechnology, mines and maritime agriculture.
Shahiki emphasized that knowledge -based is currently a small share of the maritime economy, saying that areas such as maritime tourism, biotechnology, aquaculture, offshore energy and marine mines have a very high capacity for the development of technological and knowledge -based activities, but so far.
Deputy Minister of Technology and Innovation of the Ministry of Science, pointing out that seven coastal provinces account for about 2 % of the country’s maritime border, adding that the focus on creating value chains in these provinces with biotechnology and sea -based technologies can lead to the creation of regional knowledge clusters.
Referring to the national bio -economy project, he said, the project is designed to develop a coherent biomass in the field of maritime economics by focusing on the development of marine biotechnology technologies and its value chain and through networking between technology and knowledge companies in seven provinces.
Shahiki stated that the project is headed by the Persian Gulf Science and Technology Park, stating: In this direction, parks will have a facilitating role in market development, empowerment and even export of technology, and holding meetings such as today’s meeting is an important step in the path of synergy and reinforcement of bio -players.
He noted: “With an integrated look at the dispersal of activities, we must provide the opportunity to effectively apply the capacities and resources of the country’s coastal areas to the country’s economic development and increase the share of the sea economy from the national GDP.”
Emphasizing the importance of the development of maritime -based economy in the country, Shahiki said: Science and technology parks can play a role in the propulsion of the country’s maritime economy value chain development.
He added: Today’s meeting is part of a larger program called “The Valve of Sea Economics”, which is focused on the Persian Gulf Science and Technology Park, and after Bushehr, other provinces including Khuzestan, Hormozgan, Sistan and Baluchistan, Gilan, Mazandaran and Golestan will be hosted.
Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology continued: Development of maritime economics is one of the main focus of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, and in this direction, science and technology parks in the coastal provinces of the country should act as the propulsion of the country’s maritime economy value chain development.
