Ukraine demanded 5 % of German military equipment
The Ukraine representative to the United Nations said Germany should donate 5 % of its existing armored vehicles and military aircraft.
According to RCO News Agency, the request comes from Ukraine’s representative Andrey Melnik that EU countries are looking for ways to increase support for Kiev in a situation where US President Donald Trump’s continued support for Ukraine.
Melnik, who served as ambassador to Berlin from year 1 to 5, made an open letter to the possible German Chancellor Friedrich Mortex in Welt Amont Zontag. He wrote: It is for you as peaceful people to stop this damn war by the end of the year.
According to Melnik, Germany should donate 5 % of its armored vehicle and aircraft warehouses, including about 2 Eurofiter Typhon and 2 Tornado fighter jets, 2 leopard tanks and 2 Puma infantry and 2 Marder infantry vehicles. He also urged Berlin to stand up to the expected opposition to the Social Democrats (SPD) and send four Taros cruise missiles to Ukraine.
German Social Democrats have opposed the delivery of missiles because of concerns over tension with Russia. The Social Democrats and the Party of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), which Mortus belongs to, are currently involved in negotiations for the coalition.
Andrei Melnik also urged Germany to allocate 1.5 percent of its GDP annually, or € 1.5 billion ($ 1.5 billion) by military assistance to Ukraine by year 2. He wrote: “The budget should be invested in the production of advanced weapons in Germany and Ukraine.”
In his letter, he also called for an approval of a 3.5 percent criterion across the EU as a major warning message to Russia.
Merts has recently expressed his readiness to deliver the Taros missiles to Kiev, which has raised criticism of the leader of the Social Democratic Party and the German Defense Minister.
Russian ambassador to Germany Sergei Nachayev also warned that such cargoes would not make any changes to the battlefield and would only interfere with Germany more and more.
