A new research algorithm has been provided for modeling and estimating soil erosion, which is more accurate than conventional algorithms, according to the University of Tehran.

The study, conducted in the form of a doctoral dissertation by Somayeh Ebrahimzadeh, a student at Tehran University, was conducted by Dr. Seyed Kazem Alavi Panah and Dr. Sara Attarchi, faculty members of the Faculty of Geography of Tehran University, and professors’ consulting from Golestan University and the University of Libnitz Hanover.

Dr. Alavipanah explained the importance of soil erosion: This phenomenon has irreparable consequences for the environment and human life, including reducing soil fertility, destruction of vegetation, increased flood risk, reduced food and animal species, contamination and reduced water resources, reduced water resources. Soil erosion rates in Iran 2 to 5 times the global average

“Unfortunately, the average soil erosion in Iran is about 1.5 tons per hectare and soil erosion rate is approximately 2 to 1.5 times as Asia and 2 to 5 times the global average,” said a professor at the University of Tehran Geography. Iran has the highest soil erosion rate in the world, and with only 2.5 percent of the land area accounting for about 2 percent of the world’s soil erosion alone. Therefore, studying soil erosion and finding a way to contain this phenomenon, especially in our country, is an undeniable necessity.

He stated that in this study, a new algorithm based on the integration of the Whale and Whale Algorithm and the VCE analytical algorithm was presented to estimate the soil erosion more accurately, adding: In the proposed algorithm, the components of the variance are first used by the VCE. Optimized and re -defined. Finally, by solving the unified problem of the model with an improved whale algorithm, the unknown parameters of the model are estimated. Mathematical criteria show that the proposed algorithm is more accurate than the basic algorithms and the common LS method in estimating the 3D of rainfall.

Alavipanah added: “The algorithm provided is more precise in modeling and estimating soil erosion than the two basic algorithms and other common algorithms.” Therefore, the results of this study can be used in a closer examination of soil erosion in Iran and adopting measures to protect soil in areas at high erosion rates.

Professor of the University of Tehran, referring to the case study of this study, said: According to the proposed model, a case study was conducted on the Taleghan watershed. The survey showed that the soil erosion rate in the area is 1.5 tons per year, indicating critical conditions in the area.

“The results of this study can be used to identify areas of the field that have higher and more critical erosion rates to prioritize soil conservation measures,” he said. In general, the proposed algorithm in this study can help conduct a comprehensive quantitative and qualitative research to investigate soil erosion throughout the country and plan to contain this destructive phenomenon.

The results of this study have just been published as an article in the journal Earth Science Informatics.
