Ontario’s in-demand workforce immigration program is now underway through the new Expression of Interest, or EOI, system.
The EOI system of the Ontario Provincial Immigration Program is now accepting applications for the In-Demand Skills immigration route in the Employer Job Offer Category.
This new immigration route is placed next to the Foreign Worker and International Student routes. These immigration programs were first introduced to the new application acceptance system in March 2021.
Ontario has not yet implemented an EOI system for the Masters Graduate and PhD Graduate immigration pathways. However, according to the announcement of the website of the Ontario Provincial Immigration Program, in the near future, the EOI system will be launched for these immigration routes.
Membership in the EOI system means that applicants can be considered eligible to immigrate to Ontario at any time. Ontario ranks profiles based on its own scoring matrix. In this matrix, the applicant’s education, work history and intended destination in Ontario are considered. The goal is to support applicants who have the experience and skills necessary to succeed in the Ontario job market.
Registration in the EOI system does not guarantee that the applicant will be invited to submit their application for provincial nomination. Profiles will be valid for 12 months in the EOI queue. The Ontario Provincial Immigration Program may contact the applicant at any time to request a nomination.
Recently, the province of Ontario invited 940 international students and foreign workers in the EOI system to apply for nominations.
About the In-Demand Skills immigration route
This immigration program pays more attention to the demand of the province of Ontario than the applicant’s job skill level. Many immigration programs target occupations that the government deems to require high skills. But Ontario still faces labor shortages in low-skilled jobs. For this immigration program, there are In-Demand Skills.
Foreign workers who have a valid job offer in Ontario can apply for PNP provided that they have gained 9 months of work experience in Ontario within the last three years. Seasonal work experience is not acceptable. Part-time work experience is acceptable, but only if applicants have worked the required hours: 1200 hours of paid work in one job within 18 months, or work in more than one job for at least 30 hours per week during the period 9 months, which reaches a total of 1200 hours.
Among other conditions, it is possible to mention having a high school diploma, a language score of at least 4 in all language skills, and having enough funds for accommodation and residence. Below is a list of in-demand jobs in Ontario.
