Maduro sworn in – ISNA
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was sworn in on Friday for his third six-year term as president.
According to RCO News Agency, Maduro took an oath in front of the parliament and promised that his new term would be “a period of peace”.
In August of this year, Maduro managed to defeat his rival Edmundo Gonzalez in the presidential elections by winning more than 50% of the votes.
According to Novosti, this ceremony was held in the city of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, amid increased security measures, including the blocking of the central streets by the police and all the entrances to the presidential palace and the parliament building.
Venezuelan authorities are preparing for massive demonstrations by supporters and opponents of Maduro, and traffic in central Caracas has been blocked since morning.
