Venezuela’s opposition leader was arrested
Media sources reported the arrest of the opposition leader in Venezuela after holding a violent demonstration in Caracas.
According to Isna, a source close to the opposition in Venezuela told Western News agencies that “María Corina Machado”, the leader of the opposition, was arrested after leading a violent demonstration in Caracas.
AFP also reported that Machado’s security team on the “X” social network, while claiming that Machado was intercepted by unknown people, claimed that unknown motorcyclists shot at him.
Machado, one of the leaders of Venezuela’s government opposition, came out of hiding on Thursday to lead the “last” violent protests against Nicolas Maduro and his election victory.
Venezuela’s opposition leaders, who are supported by the United States, claimed their victory in the country’s presidential elections and called Maduro’s victory a fraud.
Before his arrest, Machado had asked his supporters to join “a million” in these protests and pressure Maduro to transfer power to Edmundo González Urrutia, another opposition leader who is now in the United States.
But according to AFP, there was no sign of the huge crowd he had claimed to support, and many accepted the result of the election in Venezuela.
On the other hand, despite the claims of Machado and Gonzalez, UN experts have not accepted the opposition’s claim of victory.
Thousands of supporters of Maduro and the Venezuelan government took to the streets of Caracas to express their support for Machado as he tried to hold mass demonstrations.
In the presidential elections of Venezuela, Maduro was elected as the president of the country with the majority of votes, but the opposition and the western countries and many neighboring countries of Venezuela have challenged the results of these elections and demanded a review of the votes; Charges Caracas denies.
