Euronews claimed: Azerbaijan’s plane was shot down by Russian defense
According to four sources who spoke to Euronews, the Azerbaijan Airlines plane, in which 38 people were killed, was shot down by the Russian air defense system.
According to Isna, the Embraer 190 plane was traveling from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to the Russian city of Grozny in the North Caucasus on Wednesday, when it changed its route.
The plane crashed about two miles from Aktau in Kazakhstan while it was trying to land and before that it flew eastward through the Caspian Sea and eventually experienced a fatal crash, killing 38 people. And 29 others were injured.
Mobile phone footage circulating online appears to show the plane making a steep descent before hitting the ground. Other pictures show that a part of the plane’s fuselage was separated from the wings and the rest of the plane fell upside down in the grass.
Sources in the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan today (Thursday) made claims to Euronews that a Russian surface-to-air missile caused the downing of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane in Aktau on Wednesday.
According to these sources, this missile was fired at flight 8432 during the aerial activity of the UAV over Grozny, and it exploded next to the plane in the middle of the flight, and its shrapnel hit the passengers and cabin crew.
Government sources have claimed in an interview with Euronews that the damaged plane was not allowed to land at any Russian airport, despite the pilots’ request for an emergency landing, and was ordered to fly from the Caspian Sea to Aktau in Kazakhstan. According to the data, the plane’s GPS navigation systems were jammed throughout the flight path over the sea.
Baku-based AnewZ International Network, citing Azerbaijani government sources, claimed that the missile was fired from the Pantsir-S air defense system.
According to Russian sources, when the flight of the Republic of Azerbaijan Airlines was passing through the territory of Chechnya, the Russian air defense forces were actively trying to shoot down the Ukrainian drones.
