Turkish ambassador: Erdogan is considering a trip to Damascus
Burhan Koroglu, the chargé d’affaires of the Turkish embassy in Damascus, announced that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is considering a trip to the Syrian capital following the recent diplomatic developments.
According to Isna, Kuroglu said in an interview: “After Hakan Fidan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country, our President Erdogan is also considering coming to Damascus.”
In an interview with the Turkish TV channel “TV Net”, the Turkish ambassador emphasized the importance of Erdogan’s possible visit and said: “I believe that we will have a relationship with Syria similar to the Ottoman era.”
These changes occur after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, and Türkiye and Syria have begun to re-establish diplomatic relations. The recent visit of Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin to Damascus has drawn attention to Erdogan’s possible visit.
The President of Turkey had previously announced that Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will soon visit Damascus to work on the developing relations between the two countries. Erdogan revealed earlier: “I hope the foreign minister of our country will go there soon.” “They will work together on the new structure.”
