The British military official is concerned about the possibility of a drone attack by Russian spies
A senior British intelligence official has warned that Russian spies may launch a new wave of drones at military bases across the UK in a bid to disrupt the country’s airspace.
According to RCO News Agency, last month, a group of unknown drones attacked three air bases used by the US Air Force, which caused an immediate response from the British military and police forces. Defense sources described the operation as a “coordinated” operation.
Similar incidents have also occurred in New Jersey, America; Where unidentified drones flew around the US Army’s Picatinny Weapons Center, which produces military equipment for Ukraine.
Although those responsible for these events have not been officially identified, British and American intelligence analysts have pointed the finger of accusation at Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The US Department of Homeland Security announced on Wednesday regarding the sighting of drones over some states in the country: “We do not have more information about the origin of these drones or where they launched and landed.”
A retired British military intelligence colonel said in relation to these events: “This operation has all the characteristics of an operation by the secret intelligence organization “GRU” of Russia.”
He added: “There is a high possibility that this operation is the work of Russian intelligence. “They are investigating the reactions and capabilities of Western forces, and these operations are probably designed to compensate for Putin’s failures in Ukraine.”
The retired colonel emphasized that the drones were part of small, “seemingly isolated” incidents that could be part of a coordinated test of disruption tactics.
He continued: “A pattern is forming and from an information point of view, I don’t like patterns. “Each of these events alone will not have a great impact on our lifestyle and may not cause a big question on their own, but if these events are suddenly connected and happen all at once, the level of disruption that may be caused can be very serious.”
