Medvedev: Taiwan is an inseparable part of China
The deputy of the Russian Security Council considered the self-governing island of Taiwan to be part of China’s territory and said that efforts to separate it from the Chinese mainland would be futile.
According to Isna, Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy of the Russian Security Council, in an article published today (Friday), warned against the West’s efforts to present Taiwan as an independent country and considered this self-governing island an “inseparable” part of China’s territory. .
Medvedev wrote in an article entitled “On National Identity and Political Choice: The Experience of Russia and China” published in the Journal of International Affairs: “Taiwan is an organic and inseparable part of the Pan-Chinese space, a sovereign administrative entity of the People’s Republic of China.”
He further wrote: “Attempts inspired from across the ocean to invent a Taiwanese statehood, nation or language are artificial and unsustainable.”
During his visit to China this week, Medvedev met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Thursday to discuss strategic stability and security.
Taiwan has been governed independently from mainland China since 1949. Beijing considers the island part of its territory, but Taiwan claims it is an autonomous country, although it has so far refused to declare independence.
The United States also does not recognize Taiwan’s independence, but supports the island’s efforts for independence and is considered its main arms sponsor.
