Gassing operation in Greece led to the discovery of a historical statue of Hermes.
Excavation has led to the discovery of a sculpture made by the famous Neo-Attic workshops. The discovery was made near the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, a Roman theater on the southwest slope of the Acropolis of Athens.
The statue of the naked man depicts Hermes Ludovici, a form of sculpture commonly associated with the god Hermes as Hermes Psychopompus. Hermes, an Olympian god in ancient Greek religion and mythology, is known as the messenger of the gods. He is also known as the guardian of human messengers, travelers, thieves, merchants and orators.
The Greek Ministry of Culture announced that after documenting the statue, the staff of the Athens Antiquities Department will ensure that the statue is safely transported to a laboratory for preservation.
