Hurriyet: Türkiye determined its 3 political priorities regarding Syria after Assad
Informed sources told a Turkish media that Ankara has determined its three political priorities for the future of Syria after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government.
According to RCO News Agency, the Turkish media, quoting informed sources whose identities have not been disclosed, wrote that Turkey has determined its three political priorities regarding Syria and will support the opposition of this country.
After their advances of the last few days, which started from Aleppo and reached Hama, last Saturday, the Syrian armed opposition started their movement towards Damascus from the south of Syria and entered the Syrian capital on Sunday morning and took control of it.
After that, Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi Al-Jalali said that he and 18 other ministers decided to stay in Damascus. Al-Jalali also said that he contacted the leaders of the armed groups that entered the city. The Russian Foreign Ministry also announced that “Bashar Assad”, the former president of this country, has resigned from power and left Syria after negotiating with some of the participants in the Syrian conflict.
On Sunday, December 8, a Kremlin source told Novosti News agency that Assad and his family members had arrived in Moscow and that Russia had granted them asylum on humanitarian grounds. “Mikhail Ulyanov”, the representative of Russia in Vienna, also confirmed Assad’s stay in Russia today.
Hurriyet newspaper of Türkiye, citing informed sources about Ankara’s political position, wrote about these developments: The first priority is to manage the process of power transfer in this country and create a new Syria. The second priority is to fight the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the People’s Defense Units, both of which are banned in Türkiye. The third priority is to ensure the return of Syrian refugees from Türkiye to their homeland.
These informed sources also told Hurriyet that the transitional government in Syria should build a new country free from extremism and based on human rights, justice and representation. According to them, Türkiye will support the opposition for the establishment of a new Syrian entity.
In this regard, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized: We want a new Syria that is in harmony with its neighbors and we are ready to help make it happen. ISIS and PKK should not benefit from the situation in Syria.
Fidan said: We expect international actors and the United Nations to support the Syrian people to form a comprehensive government. A new era has begun in Syria, now we must focus on the future. Türkiye, which has helped its Syrian brothers in difficult times, will be with them in a new page opened in Damascus.
Turkish Foreign Minister added: Permanent peace in Syria will be achieved through national reconciliation between the Syrian parties. We hope that Syria will have a government that includes all parties and ethnicities and has good relations with its neighbors.
He emphasized: We will try to provide conditions for the safe return of Syrian refugees from Turkey to their country and we will continue our work regarding the reconstruction of Syria.
