Researchers in the United States and the United Kingdom succeeded in creating the first artificial human embryo. This embryo is a product of stem cells, and egg and sperm were not used in its creation. Of course, these structures are only in the early stages of development and the main organs such as their heart and brain have not yet been created.
According to Tekna technology and technology news service, researchers created these embryos, which are very similar to real embryos in the early stages of development, with the aim of obtaining information about genetic disorders and biological causes of abortion.
Earlier, the researchers of Weizmann University were able to grow only the basic structures related to parts of the body, such as the brain and heart, using the stem cells of mice. Researchers then competed to create human samples.
Information about this discovery has not yet been published in the form of an article. Zerniga Goetz, one of the scientists of this study, said about the culture of the embryos that they are in the stages of development after the 14th day.
In these models, each of the structures was created by a stem cell. Then they entered the stage of gastrulation or the turning point of development. At this stage, each of the cells, despite being placed together, will cause the growth of part of the embryo’s organs.
Of course, this progress can come with many side effects. After the publication of this news, ethical issues and related questions began to be raised in international forums so that different countries can control these experiments.
