This model is in contrast to traditional magazines, which publish articles for free, but access to their text is provided to the audience through the sale of subscription rights.
According to the expansion of the “open access” model, the publication of articles by publishers is subject to the payment of the publication fee by the authors, which due to issues such as sanctions and the rise in the price of the dollar, it will be difficult for Iranian researchers to cover the publication fee.
Dr. Mohammad Hassanzadeh in a conversation with Mehr reporter about the “free access” movement and its effect on the process of Iran’s participation in the scientific publications of the world said: following the free access movement in the world, all commercial publishers are obliged to review and of course urgently make themselves freely accessible to the audience. In order to secure their financial resources, they have to change their publishing mechanism and inevitably receive money from the authors in the form of publishing fees. These amounts vary from 500 dollars and Euros to 3500 or even 4000 Euros depending on the rank of the publication.
He stated that in the future our researchers will face problems in providing this money, and said: it is necessary to consider a mechanism in the research process to provide these amounts so that researchers can use different formats such as research credits or government and industry grants. The head of the base for providing scientific resources of the country stated that securing the right to publish articles will have a great effect on maintaining Iran’s position in terms of participation in international prestigious publications, and continued: If we do not foresee a centralized line in the budget for the required financial resources in 1404 and the following years, We will be in trouble and a sharp downward trend will dominate Iran’s position at the global level.
He pointed out: if these financial resources are provided, scientific growth will continue to be stable, but if these amounts are not foreseen in the budget, in addition to the lack of sharing of the database that caused the slow growth of Iran’s scientific position, the factor of publishing rights will also be added to it. . Because according to the distance between the countries that are in the top and bottom ranks of our country, the shifting of ranks happens quickly.
Hassanzadeh emphasized: We request the officials in the Program and Budget Organization, and the relevant commissions of the Islamic Council, especially the Education and Research Commission and the Integration Commission, to pay the subscription fees of databases and the publication rights of researchers in journals in any decision to finance these two factors. Internationally recognized, so that the country’s science and technology system, which has found a suitable place in the world so far with the efforts of researchers, can continue to maintain and improve this place.
