According to Mehr reporter, this morning (Saturday, November 26), the last supermoon of 2024 appeared with the name “Blue Dog Moon” and photographers around the world captured stunning photos of this beautiful phenomenon. The next supermoon will not occur until October 2025.
The natives and farmers of North America used to call the months of Badr with different names throughout the year, such as pink moon, blue dog, strawberry moon, and so on.
The philosophy behind naming the fourth supermoon of the year “Blue Dog Moon” is that in 1930, a farmer named supermoons. And when he reached the fourth one, he saw some water dogs gathering food. That’s why he named this full moon Blue Dog.
A supermoon occurs when the moon is closest to Earth in its elliptical orbit (known as perigee) and is also full. In this state, the moon appears to be about 7-14% larger than other times and up to 30% brighter than normal full moons. However, with the naked eye, these differences do not show themselves. The attraction of the supermoon is due to its unusual size and brightness, which creates a magnificent effect in the night sky. Part of this larger size is due to a kind of visual error that the human mind is involved in. But in any case, this phenomenon gives sky enthusiasts the opportunity to feel the beauty of nature up close and take eye-catching pictures of the moon. Therefore, it has become a phenomenon of interest in recent years.
