The President of Russia had a telephone conversation with his counterpart from the Republic of Azerbaijan on Friday.
According to Isna, the Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev today (Friday).
The Kremlin stated in its statement: “Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev. The two presidents discussed executive issues related to projects beneficial to both sides in the fields of transportation and industrial cooperation.
This telephone conversation takes place after the Republic of Azerbaijan officially applied for membership in the BRICS organization, which Russia is one of the founders of, along with Turkey and Malaysia. A number of other countries have also expressed their desire to join this union.
The Russian city of Kazan hosted the world leaders for the 16th BRICS Summit at the beginning of November. The meeting was attended by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The Kazan summit was the first meeting of this bloc since the previous wave of its expansion with Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates joining BRICS.
