The historical house of Imam Juma of Tehran (Chancellor’s House) was finally reopened after years of struggle.
One of the branches of Naser Khosro street, which is lost among the crowds of this street, houses a famous and valuable historical house. The house, which was known as “Imam Juma” house for many years, is now known by the name of its older owner, Mirza Agha Khan Nouri, the chancellor of Naseruddin Shah.
A historical house whose impressive sashes take visitors’ minds and dozens of photographs hidden in its architectural decorations occupy the minds of visitors. The historic house of Sadr al-Azam, which was previously known by the name of another of its owners, Imam Juma of Tehran, is located in an alley with the same name on Nasser Khosro Street. This house was in poor condition for many years, it was abandoned for a while, the doors were opened for tourists to visit during special days of the year, it was the base of the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit for a long time, and in all these years, restoration was done occasionally in this valuable building.
Sadrul-ezam’s house, being located on the wall of the busy Nasser Khosro street and close to Tehran’s Golestan Palace, was one of the historical capacities of this axis, so that another historical building on the historical route north of Nasser Khosro street could be used for cultural and tourism purposes. Years ago, the Fund for the Preservation and Restoration of Historical Monuments finally put this historical monument on the auction list so that private sector investors can erase the oblivion from this treasure in the heart of Tehran.
The operation of restoring and organizing this historical building for the use of cafe, restaurant and gallery started a long time ago and according to the evidence, a part of it still remains. The historical house of Sadrul-ezam Naseruddin Shah is full of wooden decorations such as windows and sashes, as well as mirror work, plastering and paintings on the second floor of the building, it needs careful and professional restoration. Although the parts of the restoration on the upper floor of the building are not finished, the courtyard and the ground floor of the building are restored and ready for use, and now the doors of this valuable historical building have been opened to Tehran so that one of the beautiful historical buildings will once again be a hangout for Tehranis and tourists.
“Nima Perenfar”, the investor of the restoration and revival of this historical house, said at the reopening ceremony of the Grand President’s House:
I am happy that the administrative bureaucracy related to this historical building was finally resolved and after 4 years, we restored this building. For the initial restoration of this building, the initial cost was estimated at around 4 billion tomans, but more than 32 billion tomans have been spent on its restoration. Historical monuments must be able to cover their maintenance costs from the building itself, and it is not possible otherwise.
Officials of Tehran Municipality and the Fund for the Preservation and Restoration of Historical Monuments also expressed the support of investors in the field of restoration of historical monuments. The historical house of Sadr al-Azam has now been opened to tourists as one of Tehran’s valuable houses, just in the days when whispers of the destruction of the historical heart of Tehran are heard again in development plans.
