Guterres: The world must act to prevent ethnic cleansing in Gaza
Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations, warned that if the international community fails to take a firm stand, the Zionist regime may carry out “ethnic cleansing” in Gaza.
According to RCO News Agency, this request of Guterres is raised in the midst of increasing civilian casualties due to the bombings of northern Gaza by the Zionist army.
Tuesday’s deadly attack in northern Gaza’s Beit Lahia district left at least 93 dead and was just one of at least seven “mass casualty incidents” across Gaza in recent days, according to the United Nations.
At the same time, reports show that the aid sent to Gaza has reached its lowest level since the beginning of the Gaza war, which has resulted in more than 43,000 casualties. The real goal of the Zionist regime is to expel the remaining Palestinian population, at least from part of Gaza.
On the sidelines of the COP16 Biodiversity Conference in Colombia, the UN Secretary-General stated that the ethnic cleansing of Gaza has so far been prevented by the refusal of the people of Gaza to give in to the intense pressure to flee their homes and by the Arab decision not to accept mass population transfers. .
Guterres told The Guardian: “The intention may be for the Palestinians to leave Gaza and for others to occupy it. But an attempt has been made to prevent the realization of ethnic cleansing, and I pay tribute to the courage and perseverance of the Palestinian people and the determination of the Arab world.”
“We will do everything possible to help them stay there and avoid the ethnic cleansing that could happen if the international community does not have strong resolve,” he added.
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi told US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken last week that ethnic cleansing is already happening in Gaza. The Israeli army is systematically trying to expel the Palestinians.
Tuesday’s bombing of a five-story residential building in Beit Lahia, where scores of children were among the 93 victims, has drawn widespread international condemnation. The United States, which is one of the financial and weapons supporters of the Zionist regime, called it simply “a terrible incident with a terrible result.”
On Wednesday, the French Foreign Ministry announced that it condemns the bombing and “recent Israeli attacks on hospitals in the north”. “The siege of northern Gaza must end immediately,” the French statement said.
