China’s sanctions have hampered the UAV industry in the United States
America’s largest drone maker and supplier to Ukraine’s military is facing a supply chain crisis after Beijing imposed sanctions on the company, including banning Chinese groups from supplying it with critical parts.
According to RCO News Agency, US officials are concerned that China will disrupt the US supply chain and provide Ukraine with drones used in intelligence gathering.
Adam Berry, CEO of Skydio, the largest U.S. drone maker, wrote in a note published by the Financial Times: “This is an attempt to eliminate the leading U.S. drone company and deepen the world’s dependence on Chinese drone suppliers.”
Skydio told customers on Wednesday that it is rationing the number of batteries shipped with drones because of the Chinese move and doesn’t expect to have new suppliers until the spring.
U.S. officials have reached out to Asian allies to explore ways to help the company, a person familiar with the situation said.
In recent years, Beijing has sanctioned several American defense companies, including Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Boeing and Indorail Industries.
