Medvedev: We are setting off fireworks at the German weapons factory in Ukraine
After Germany’s Rheinmetall factory announced that one of its subsidiaries in Ukraine had been activated in support of Kiev’s war against Moscow, the former Russian president said there would be “fireworks” at the German weapons production facility.
According to Isna, Germany’s largest arms maker earlier this year finalized plans to create a joint venture with state-owned defense group Okrobronprom to produce artillery ammunition, armored vehicles and air defense systems, and as part of the partnership agreement, Rheinmetall, which It produces a wide range of weapons, including Leopard tanks, and announced that it will build four factories on Ukrainian soil.
In response, Moscow responded to the announcement by warning that such facilities would be considered “legitimate targets” for Russian attacks.
However, on Saturday, Rheinmetall’s director confirmed that work is progressing in Ukraine and that the first plant is already ready. “We have many good plans,” he said in an interview with the Ukrainian News channel. The first factory is already in operation. Defense industry of Ukraine is our partner.
The director of the military company Rheinmetall said that this partnership is “constructive”, adding: “Currently, we have a production center and a maintenance center. By the end of the year, we will have the first Lynx advanced combat vehicle in Ukraine. “Currently, we are servicing infantry fighting vehicles as well as main battle tanks.”
In response to these developments, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who currently serves as the vice-chairman of the Russian Security Council, commented and said that this means that this new factory will be targeted by the Russian army.
Medvedev wrote in a message on the “X” network and also on his Telegram channel, which was accompanied by a short video of an explosion: “The German company Rheinmetall has launched the first of its four military factories in Ukraine. As promised earlier, we are looking forward to a Russian ‘fireworks’ celebration at the production site.”
Arms company Rheinmetall previously said the Ukraine conflict had “significantly improved business performance” and almost doubled operating profit in the first half of 2024. The company expects to receive more than 60 billion euros ($64.8 billion) in orders by the end of this year.
According to Rasha Today, Moscow has repeatedly condemned the West’s involvement in the conflict and argues that efforts to support Kyiv are only to the detriment of EU and American taxpayers and to the benefit of the military-industrial complex. Russia believes that no amount of military aid to Ukraine will change the outcome of the war and will only prolong the war.
