Guterres: The situation in the Middle East has become more critical
The Secretary General of the United Nations criticized the Zionist regime for not accepting the proposals for a ceasefire in Lebanon during the Security Council meeting on the developments in West Asia.
According to RCO News Agency, the special meeting of the UN Security Council started on Wednesday evening to review the developments in the West Asian region.
At the beginning of this meeting, Switzerland’s ambassador to the United Nations, who is currently the interim chairman of the Security Council, called for maintaining respect for existing differences of opinion.
Israel rejected the ceasefire offer
“Antonio Guterres”, the Secretary General of the United Nations, said at the beginning of his speech: “The fires of tension in the Middle East are getting out of control. Last week I warned about the situation in the region, but this crisis has become much worse. In the General Assembly meeting, I announced that the daily exchange of fire between Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Israel violates UN Treaty 1701 and other UN treaties.
He added: “Lebanon’s territorial integrity should be respected and its government should have control over all weapons in this country.” “In the past days, we have seen an unprecedented escalation of tensions, and now we have to ask ourselves what exactly is the purpose of the Security Council and its mechanism to implement the 1701 Treaty.”
Referring to the crimes of the Zionist regime, the UN Secretary General said: “Israeli forces are carrying out heavy air strikes against Lebanon and Beirut. America, France and many countries proposed a ceasefire, and Israel, after opposing this proposal, bombarded Hezbollah’s headquarters in Beirut and intensified its attacks.
He added: “Yesterday, Israel claimed the start of a limited operation and began its ground attack against Lebanon. UNIFIL peacekeeping forces have remained in place against Israel’s will, and their security must be maintained.”
“Civilians are suffering and I strongly condemn this,” Guterres said. “Since last October, more than a thousand Lebanese have been killed in Lebanon, many of whom were women and children.”
He added: “Nearly one million people have been displaced and many have taken refuge in Syria. “The United Nations is using all its capabilities to help Lebanon and send humanitarian packages to this country.”
The Secretary General of the United Nations stated: “We must prevent a full-scale war in Lebanon. Since October 8, Hezbollah attacks against Israel have left 49 dead and 60,000 displaced. “If war breaks out in Lebanon, the consequences will be irreparable.”
Guterres said, “Yesterday, Iran fired nearly 200 missiles against Israel.” According to Iran, Iran’s goal was to avenge the death of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Seyed Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut, and Abbas Nilfroushan in Lebanon, and millions of people in Israel and occupied Palestine were forced to flee to shelters.
He condemned this attack and said: “Similar to Iran’s missile attack in April, I condemn this attack.”
Guterres claimed: “This attack was not carried out in order to defend the rights of Palestinians.”
Nevertheless, he said: “Since October 7, Israel has carried out the most severe attacks against the Gaza Strip and is intensifying its attacks, its operations and occupation in the West Bank and the destruction of the two-state solution.”
Guterres also stated: “Despite all these issues, the Palestinian resistance has continued its operations.”
He said: “Last year’s developments are a confirmation of the urgent need to achieve a ceasefire and implement the two-state solution.”
Guterres said about Lebanon: “Treaties of 1701 and 1559 must be implemented and tensions must stop. “The time has come to stop the tension after the tension in the Middle East, and every stage of tension has been used as an excuse to escalate the tension.”
He added: “Ignoring the UN treaties should not continue.”
France demanded Iran’s restraint
The representative of France in the Security Council said in a special meeting of this council to review developments in the region: “France condemns Iran’s ballistic attacks. “We sent our forces to the region to counter Iran’s attacks.”
He further called for Iran’s restraint and not to carry out new attacks and said: “France also condemns yesterday’s terrorist attack in Israel.”
The representative of France continued: “The situation in Lebanon is serious. Israeli forces violated the country’s territorial integrity by attacking Lebanon, and Hezbollah continues its attacks against Israel.
He added: “We are against any ground attack on Lebanon. “France condemns Israel’s airstrikes against Lebanon, which have resulted in the killing of civilians, and Hezbollah’s attacks against Israel.”
The representative of France stated: “We ask Israel to accept the proposal of France and its allies for a ceasefire. The 1701 treaty must be implemented in Lebanon. All displaced citizens in Lebanon and Israel must return to their homes. “All parties must also guarantee the security of UNIFIL peacekeeping forces.”
He went on to discuss the Gaza crisis and said: “France also emphasizes the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, full access of Gazan civilians to humanitarian aid, the release of prisoners and efforts to achieve a two-state solution.” The time has come to unite the Security Council. “We must show that the Security Council wants peace and de-escalation.”
British support for the Zionist regime
While expressing the unconditional support of the British government to the Zionist regime and the security of this occupying regime, the representative of the United Kingdom in the United Nations said at the beginning of his speech at the special meeting of the Security Council to review the recent developments in West Asia: “The United Kingdom is against Iran’s actions and its attack on Israel. strongly condemns “Iran has fired more than 200 ballistic missiles against Israel, this action will intensify the current dangerous situation.”
He added: “As the British Prime Minister has announced, we support Israel against Iran.”
The British representative continued, while ignoring the crimes of the Zionist regime and the developments in the region, in hostile statements, he said: “The conditions in Lebanon and the entire region are critical. All our efforts should be focused on stopping these tensions. We ask Iran and its allies to exercise restraint. The British Foreign Minister has always called for a ceasefire in Lebanon and a stop to Israeli and Lebanese attacks.
He added: “We support the implementation of the 1701 treaty in Lebanon, the ceasefire in Gaza and the release of prisoners. “UK calls on Israel and Hamas to agree to a ceasefire and choose peace to end this crisis.”
He stated: “Peace is a brave choice. The best option to maintain the security stability of Israelis, Lebanese and Palestinians and the entire region is peace. The British Prime Minister is trying to gain support for a political solution. “Only peace in Gaza and Lebanon can lead to peace and the return of Lebanese and Israeli citizens to their homes.”
The British Permanent Representative to the United Nations said: “The conflict in Lebanon has had irreparable consequences against women and children and has pushed the region towards an all-out war. “We must not allow Lebanon to become another Gaza.”
He stated: “All parties must respect international laws and prevent killing and harming civilians.”
The British representative also called for restraint from all parties in the region and a concentrated effort to achieve a ceasefire and peace in the region.
America’s hostile statements against Iran
The Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations condemned Iran’s missile attacks against the Zionist regime and said: “The United States condemns the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ missile attack on Israel.”
The American representative further claimed: “The Security Council must condemn Iran’s unilateral action.” Iran has been an accomplice in the October 7 attack by training Hamas and providing financial resources to this group, and after the attack by Hamas, America sent a serious warning to Iran and demanded that Iran not use this situation. But the army has ignored this warning. With the encouragement of Yemen’s Houthis, maritime trade has suffered a crisis and Israel has been the target of their attacks.
He claimed: “Iran, with the encouragement of the Iraqi and Syrian forces, the American forces, has been the target of attacks by these forces, and by encouraging and supporting Hezbollah, Tehran made Nasrallah target Israel after October 7. There is no doubt that Iran’s support for its proxy forces has caused the crisis in Lebanon and Gaza.
While ignoring the crimes of the Zionist regime and supporting this occupying regime, the American representative said: “At the core of Iran’s efforts to escalate tension in the region and create chaos is the IRGC. The IRGC and its allies are spreading their propaganda. The IRGC’s missile attack, which fired 200 missiles at Israel, did not take place in defense of Iran. Rather, the IRGC is cooperating with Hezbollah. The Security Council should impose wider sanctions against the IRGC.”
The American representative added: “If the Security Council does not take a serious decision, the IRGC will continue its attacks.” “We are exposed to the occurrence of an all-out war in the region.”
Without referring to the attacks of the Zionist regime on Lebanon, he said: “In recent weeks, many civilians have been killed in Lebanon. Israel has always called for an end to Hezbollah’s attacks. “Despite the Lebanese government’s desire for Hezbollah to withdraw, this group has opposed and prevented the implementation of the 1701 treaty, and despite all these developments, Israel still wants to implement this treaty.”
The representative of the United States claimed: “The United States supports the diplomatic solution and this issue remains the priority of the United States.” “The implementation of the 1701 treaty is the only way to de-escalate the current situation and return Israeli and Lebanese citizens to their homes.”
In his remarks, he mentioned the crimes of the occupying regime that have resulted in the martyrdom of thousands of Lebanese, and said: “We ask all parties to protect the lives of civilians.”
The American representative continued to talk about Gaza and said: “The United States will not spare any efforts to achieve a cessation of war in Gaza.” In this regard, we are trying to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of prisoners in line with Security Council Treaty 2735. Last week’s developments should send a clear message to Hamas leaders hiding in their tunnels. “Hezbollah and Iran will not save you and the only way now is a ceasefire.”
He added: “The United States will continue to support Israel’s right to defend itself against the terrorist forces supported by Iran.” Of course, how Israel defends itself against these threats is important. Israel must minimize civilian casualties. As the President of the United States has stated, Washington will always and fully support Israel. “All our actions have been defensive.”
The American representative claimed: “We warn Iran and its proxies against new actions against Israel or American forces, and the Security Council must condemn Iran for supporting terrorism.” The time has come for Iran’s Security Council to be held accountable for its actions. The residents of Israel, Lebanon, the entire region and the West Bank and Gaza deserve a ceasefire.”
