British Foreign Minister called for Iran’s restraint
Following the attacks of the Zionist regime on Lebanon, the British Foreign Minister called for Iran’s restraint and said that the price of any regional war in West Asia will be high and the situation may become more dangerous.
According to Isna, British Foreign Secretary David Lemmy, while urging British citizens living in Lebanon to leave, warned that the situation in Lebanon could become “much, much more dangerous”.
“We are talking to our Iranian counterparts and we are asking for restraint,” the British foreign secretary said in a video message posted online, saying the situation is “volatile and could quickly deteriorate.”
Addressing his country’s citizens in Lebanon, he said: “We continue to make contingency plans for a wide range of scenarios in the region, but you should not wait for these. We know that events can escalate and the situation on the ground can become much, much more dangerous. This means that there is no guarantee that another option will be available. The UK government now provides an option for you to leave. My message is clear; Accept it.”
On Monday, David Lemmy chaired a ministerial meeting of the Cobra Emergency Committee to discuss the crisis and held talks with his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken. About 5,000 British citizens live in Lebanon.
Meanwhile, British Foreign Minister today (Tuesday) in an interview with “BBC” News channel asked the Zionist regime and Hezbollah to implement an immediate ceasefire and asked Iran to “show restraint” and not get involved in this conflict.
David Lemmy warned that the cost of a regional war would be “enormous” and would have a “significant impact on the global economy”.
He clarified that “none of us” wants a wider conflict and a situation where “Israel finds itself in a quagmire in southern Lebanon.”
David Lemmy stated that the way forward in Lebanon is “a political solution, not a military one”, adding: “Our position is fixed. After talking with our American colleagues and other allies, we want an immediate ceasefire. We need a diplomatic solution to the problems in Lebanon so that the Israelis can return to their homes in northern Israel and the Lebanese can return to their homes in southern Lebanon. So at this time, we want to see a political solution, the plan of Amos Hockstein (Biden’s special representative) that is on the table from the Americans, and an immediate ceasefire.”
The British Foreign Minister stated that “Israel and Hezbollah do not listen to the requests of the international community”, and said: “We will continue to talk with the Israelis and, in fact, with other actors in the Middle East.” At present, none of us want to see an escalation of tensions in the region. None of us want to go back to the years when Israel was stuck in a swamp in southern Lebanon and the war was going on between Israeli soldiers and the Lebanese side. And that’s why we believe that Resolution 1701 should be implemented and Hezbollah should retreat to the Litani River so that Israelis can feel safe in northern Israel.”
The British minister’s statement comes in the context that London has been one of the main supporters of this regime along with the United States since the start of the Zionist regime’s aggression against Gaza on October 7, 2023, and has not stopped supporting Tel Aviv with the continuation of the Zionist crimes against the Lebanese nation.
On Tuesday morning, the Zionist army announced the beginning of the ground invasion of southern Lebanon. According to the claim of the Zionist regime army, this ground operation with air and artillery support against what was called “Hizbollah’s objectives” was “limited”. The claim of the Zionist regime to target the infrastructure of the Lebanese resistance, while this regime has targeted residential and civilian areas in the past hours, which has resulted in the martyrdom of hundreds of Lebanese civilians.
