Zelensky: Trump supports Ukraine
The president of Ukraine claimed that the former US president supported Kiev in the war with Russia.
According to Isna, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, after meeting with Donald Trump, the former President of the United States and the candidate of the Republican Party in the presidential elections of this country, who is one of the main critics of the war in Ukraine and the policies of Kiev and its Western supporters for the continuation of the war Est claimed: “During my meeting with the former US president, he said that he would support Ukraine if he wins the presidential election.”
In an interview with the American channel “Fox News“, while rejecting reports about his support for Kamala Harris, the candidate of the Democratic Party and Trump’s rival, he said: “I don’t know what the outcome of the American election will be, but Kiev wants an answer from the United States.”
Zelensky emphasized: “Washington has always been the main supporter of Kyiv, in this regard, the position of the White House is of particular importance for Kyiv.”
He also described his conversation with Trump on Friday as “really productive,” adding, “I got very direct information from Donald Trump that he will stand by us and support Ukraine.”
Zelensky added that the Republican candidate was “very interested” in getting information from him “directly” about the current situation on the front lines, as well as Ukraine’s needs.
Zelensky’s claim comes as the former US president has claimed that he can force Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin to find a diplomatic solution “within 24 hours” of being elected.
On the other hand, the President of Ukraine said in an interview with the New Yorker magazine last Sunday that he believes that Trump “doesn’t really know how to stop the war, even if he thinks he does.”
Asked by the Fox News host if he still stands by that comment, Zelensky said that no one outside of Ukraine can really understand what the country is going through.
“We both want to see an end to this war, we both want to see a fair deal,” Trump said after his meeting with Zelensky on Friday.
Meanwhile, the former US president criticized Zelensky at a campaign rally on Wednesday for not negotiating with Russia to end the conflict, saying even the “worst deal” would be better than the current situation. The former US president also argued that neither his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris, nor the current US president know how to get the US out of the conflict in Ukraine.
Trump went on to claim that Zelensky wants Harris to win the election because Democrats have proven reliably generous on Ukraine under Biden.
On the other hand, according to the German newspaper Spiegel, the President of Ukraine was humiliated in the meeting with Donald Trump, but he was afraid to react.
According to Spiegel, the atmosphere of the meeting between Zelenskyi and Trump clearly showed that these two figures are not very interested in each other, but in addition, a lot of fear and humiliation was evident in Zelenskyi’s face.
According to this report, even many Ukrainian officials believed that Trump’s presidency would bring many opportunities for Ukraine in the war with Russia, but his recent meeting with Zelensky has certainly dimmed these hopes.
Trump, angered by Zelensky’s visit to an arms factory in Pennsylvania with the state’s Democratic governor in attendance, posted an image of a letter online that showed Zelensky had requested a visit.
However, according to SPIEGEL, Zelensky has learned to hide his fear and humiliation and not react because he has no other choice. According to this report, Zelensky had to be friendly with Trump in order to maintain his country’s military capability, because if he reacted to his insults, it might negatively affect US military support for Kiev.
