The president of Colombia called Netanyahu a “criminal” in the UN General Assembly
Colombian President Gustavo Petro said in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly: “When Gaza dies, all humanity dies.”
According to RCO News Agency, in his speech on Tuesday, Petro criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the attacks on the Gaza Strip.
“It is an injustice… that we understand the logic of the massive destruction caused by the climate crisis and the logic of the bombs that a criminal like Netanyahu is dropping on Gaza,” Petro said.
He added: “When Gaza dies, all humanity will die.” Today we have 20 thousand children killed. Presidents laugh at this situation in the UN General Assembly.”
The President of Colombia said that only the voices of world powers are heard on the international stage.
He stated: “The power of a country is no longer represented by political and economic power, but by the destruction of humanity.” Those of us who have the power to save our lives are ignored. This is why when we vote to stop the genocide in Gaza, we are not heard. Presidents who are capable of destroying humanity do not listen to us.”
Petro emphasized the importance of energy transition to stop the climate crisis. He called for measures to be taken in the field of climate change and warned that 11 million hectares of Amazon forests were burned in just one month due to global warming and the climate crisis.
“Scientists have said that if the Amazon rainforest burns, we will reach a climate tipping point – where human decisions to stop the collapse will no longer be safe,” he said. “The Amazon rainforest is burning right now.”
“People need to stop using fossil fuels,” Petro added. Chimneys must be stopped. Chimneys in every corner of the world must be stopped.”
He also condemned the blockade of Cuba and Venezuela.
He said: “The powerful global cartel allows bombs to fall on Gaza, Lebanon and Sudan, or allows the economic blockade of rebellious countries such as Cuba and Venezuela, which do not fit into their sphere.”
