The Abu Dhabi Louvre Museum, located on Saadiyat Island, is considered one of the largest and most important art museums in the Middle East. The museum was opened in November 2017 by Emmanuel Macron, the then president of France, and is the result of a 30-year agreement between the cities of Abu Dhabi and Paris. The designer of the museum is Jean Nouvel; The prominent French architect who has created a unique work of art inspired by Arabic architecture and with Arab-Futurist style. The museum’s domed and mesh roof, which resembles the leaves of a palm tree, directs natural light into the galleries while preventing the intense heat of the desert environment.
With an area of about 24,000 square meters, the Abu Dhabi Louvre Museum is the largest art museum in the Arabian Peninsula and includes 23 different galleries. This huge museum, with the aim of creating a bridge between Eastern and Western civilizations, displays artistic and historical works from all over the world. Louvre Abu Dhabi hosts more than 600 permanent works of art and 300 works on loan from French museums. Louvre Abu Dhabi is not only an important tourist destination, but also an international cultural cooperation and artistic exchange between countries.
