ISIS claimed responsibility for the melee attack in Germany
In a statement, the terrorist group “ISIS” claimed responsibility for the cold weapon attack in western Germany.
According to RCO News Agency, On Saturday evening, the ISIS terrorist group claimed responsibility for a knife attack in the city of Solingen in western Germany.
On Friday, the German police announced that three people were killed and four others were injured in a stabbing incident in the city of Solingen.
After the incident, the police announced on the X social network: “Our officers have been deployed in large numbers and are looking for the perpetrator.”
According to reports, the attack happened at 21:45 (Friday) local time.
Earlier, German officials said the attack was “probably a terrorist attack”.
According to a recent report by the American News agency “Reuters”, the police have so far detained a 15-year-old person and are investigating whether there is a connection between this teenager and the attacker.
Meanwhile, Markus Kaspers, an official at the prosecutor’s office in Düsseldorf, told an afternoon news conference that the possibility of “terrorism” could not be ruled out. He introduced the reason for this conclusion, the lack of recognition of any other motive and said: “It seems that the victims are not related to each other.”
At the same briefing, Torsten Felice, a police official, confirmed that the assailant appeared to be aiming for the throats of his victims.
The police announced in a statement: “Investigation and search to find the possible perpetrators and the reasons for this crime continues in full.”
The attack happened during a festival on the occasion of the 650th anniversary of the founding of the city.
The police surrounded the square on Saturday and passers-by placed candles and flowers outside the barriers.
Authorities canceled the rest of the weekend festival.
According to Reuters, fatal stabbings and shootings are relatively uncommon in Germany. The government announced earlier this month that it wants to tighten rules on knives that can be carried in public by reducing the maximum length allowed.
On the other hand, according to the BBC, this attack happens while a little more than a week ago, the German Interior Minister called for tougher measures to curb knife crimes.
Solingen, known for its knife industry, is a city with a population of about 165,000.
