A creative photographer has captured interesting photos of natural and urban landscapes using the double exposure technique.
In photography, when it comes to surrealism, the first thing that comes to mind is photo editing with software such as Photoshop; However, sometimes with a little creativity and technique, different photos can be captured without editing.
Robin Vandenabeele (Robin Vandenabeele) with the stage name “rova”, a photographer living in the city of Ghent (Gent) in Belgium, takes surreal and beautiful photos of different urban landscapes using only his camera and using double exposure. Robin completes his photography project by traveling to different cities and countries; But many of his photos were taken during the covid pandemic when the streets were empty of people. He says about his creative art:
Strong interest in graphic art at a younger age led to the creation of works of art at an older age. Meanwhile, in addition to recording important moments and projects, photography also helped preserve memories; So it became a tool for me to create visual arts.
In the early 2000s, I learned and honed my craft with video cameras and reading photo books. I was looking for innovative ways to create new compositions when I came to the “double exposure technique” and this chosen technique led to the creation of new and unique art.
I combine parts of light and shadow in an image, rotate and merge it with the original image and create abstract and sometimes surreal versions of familiar scenes and environments by enhancing the visual effects.
My goal of implementing the double and distinct exposure technique is to provide a new interpretation of reality through the art of photography. This technique involves taking two identical images consecutively with an intermediate rotation, which will eventually result in surreal and dreamlike artwork.
