New research by scientists shows that there is still time until 2030 to cross the safe threshold of global warming by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
According to Tekna’s technology and technology news service, while warning about crossing the safe threshold of global warming, scientists announced that by 2030, the amount of carbon emissions will be much higher than the set limits, and this will worsen climate change. For this reason, scientists say that we will have only 6 years to change the path and reduce these gases.
According to new research, the amount of carbon dioxide that can be produced will be more than 276 gigatons in January of next year despite being within the scope of the remaining carbon budget. This amount of carbon dioxide can cause an increase of one and a half degrees of global warming above the level of the pre-industrial period.
According to scientists, human activities currently cause the annual release of about 40 gigatons of carbon dioxide. If the amount of pollutants is not reduced immediately, the remaining carbon budget will not be enough to maintain this temperature in the next 6 years. The researchers stated that the remaining carbon budget is currently 1,323 gigatons for emissions.
According to the Paris Agreement in 2015, if global warming is limited to one and a half degrees Celsius, dangerous climate impacts can be avoided.
