Canada‘s new strategy to improve the immigration system
The 2024-2026 Immigrant Capacity Plan was released a day after the Canadian government unveiled a new strategy to improve its immigration system, titled “An Immigration System for Canada’s Future.” On October 31, Immigration Minister Mark Miller highlighted the shortcomings of the country’s immigration system. Meanwhile, he outlined a new approach to modernize the system.
The new strategy, titled “An Immigration System for Canada’s Future,” has three main goals:
Creating a more pleasant experience for newcomers
Aligning migration with labor market needs
Preparation of a comprehensive and coordinated growth plan
Mark Miller outlined key details of his strategy, including planning for housing, health care and infrastructure, along with other important services in planning Canada’s immigration levels.
He also plans to create a new position under the title of International Talent Manager, whose task will be to coordinate migration programs and paths with the labor market.
Further changes will be made to the international student system and the Approved Institutions Framework will be introduced in partnership with provinces to allow approved colleges and universities faster access to study permit processing.
Miller has said that a new immigration policy will be created to increase the demographic weight of the French-speaking minority population.
