According to Qatar News Agency; “Qatar Museums” announced the success of registering three new ancie and historical sites in the Islamic World Educational, Scieific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) heritage list. This action, which was carried out in line with Doha’s commitme to preserve and promote its cultural heritage at the regional and iernational level, includes the village of “Al Mafjar”, the ancie site of “Ain Mohammed” and the ancie settleme of “Al-Murwab”. With the addition of these items, the number of Qatari works registered in the “ISECO” list has now reached 10, which shows the depth of history and civilizational richness of this coury in the Islamic world.
Mohammed Saad Al Rumaihi, CEO of Qatar Museums, described this success as a turning poi in the cultural path of his coury and considered it as connecting future generations with its historical ideity. The files submitted to this organization were compiled in close cooperation with the iernational and architectural conservation departmes to properly explain the outstanding global value of these places to iernational experts. Previously, works such as “Al Zubarah Fort”, “Al Jassasiya” ancie site and the old palace of Qatar National Museum were also included in this list.
The newly registered sites display differe dimensions of Qatar’s history. Among them, we can see the settleme of “Al-Morub”, whose roots go back to the Abbasid era, to the coastal villages that tell the story of the traditional life of the people of this land in rece ceuries. Qatar’s cultural authorities have emphasized that this iernational recognition doubles their responsibility in coinuing archaeological research, documeation and sustainable protection of these places so that these historical treasures are safe from the ravages of time and urban developme.
