Poland seeks to sue Russia for Soviet-era damages
Poland is preparing a lawsuit against Russia for damages caused during World War II and the Cold War.
According to RCO News Agency, the Financial Times reported that Poland is preparing a plan to sue Russia for damages allegedly caused to it during the People’s Republic of Poland, when the coury was an ally of the Soviet Union.
According to this report, at the request of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, a group of historians have gathered to evaluate the eves of World War II and the following decades of the Cold War, as well as the negative consequences of Soviet influence.
Warsaw described the project as long-term and noted the difficulty of accessing archival materials.
This newspaper emphasizes that it is still too early to talk about the amou of possible compensation from Russia.
The Financial Times concluded that Poland had previously sought reparations from Germany for World War II damages. In December 2025, German chancellor Friedrich Mertz announced that the issue of reparations was legally and politically closed years ago from Germany’s poi of view.
