Continuation of tensions in southern Yemen – Mehr News agency RCO News Agency
Referring to the failure of Saudi Arabia in deploying the so-called “Shield of the Homeland” forces in the city of Aden, an informed source said: The forces of the Southern Transitional Council (supported by the UAE) are still in control of the infrastructure and vital facilities of this city.
He added: Despite the agreements made, the forces of the Transitional Council have under their control important barracks such as “Ras Abbas” and “Aljala” in Al-Bariqah area, “Badr” barracks (headquarters of the Ministry of Defense), “Al-Sulban” and “Al-Nasr” barracks in “Khormaksar” as well as the “5th Brigade” barracks in Aden.
According to this source, the forces of the Transitional Council have complete control over the key checkpoints at the entrances to the city; Among them, “Al Alam Point” (Eastern entrance towards Abyan province), “Mansat al-Hadid Point” (Northern entrance towards Lahj), “Hosseini Point” and “Omran Point” (western entrance).
He clarified that the strategic port of Aden is still under the control of transitional forces and only the Jabal Hadid barracks has been handed over to the security forces of the facilities after the withdrawal of the Al-Amalaqa forces.
In the end, this source emphasized that the forces of “Dara Al-Watan” affiliated with Riyadh were concentrated only in the “Salahuddin” area in the west of Aden and could not be deployed in the main bases of the city and vital barracks.
Meanwhile, the Emirati Transitional Council continues to exercise its authority over Aden, and Saudi Arabia is facing difficulties and complications in trying to impose its influence.
In recent weeks, disputes over the management of resources and the division of security positions between the Saudi- and UAE-backed forces have risen, especially after Riyadh’s agreements for security integration. Local sources report that despite repeated calls for the withdrawal of Transitional Council forces from some key facilities, UAE influence through the Council remains strong in Aden.
