Macron: I am preparing to hold talks with Putin
The French president emphasized that it is unlikely that he will hold talks with “Vladimir Putin” in the near future, but he is preparing to hold these talks.
According to RCO News Agency, French President Emmanuel Macron, in a statement after an informal meeting of European Union leaders in Belgium, noted that there is no plan for him to hold a possible dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the coming days.
He stated: “It is not relevant that such a dialogue is going to be held in the next few days.”
According to a video of his speech that was published on the Elysee Palace user account on the X social network, Macron noted that he has sent his diplomatic advisor to Russia and “we are preparing the ground for this dialogue.”
The French president also stated whether he would like to invite Russian representatives to the G7 meetings in France: “Such a thing is not on the agenda until the war in Ukraine ends. “But I still don’t have the feeling that it’s going to happen anytime soon.”
Earlier, in an interview with the German newspaper “Suddeutsche Zeitung”, Macron said that he had suggested to several European colleagues that talks with Russia be resumed.
He also said that the current framework of the Ukraine peace negotiations, in which the American representatives are negotiating with Moscow on the terms of peace without the participation of the Europeans, “is not appropriate.”
Yesterday, “Maria Zakharova”, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that the desire that Macron recently expressed to have a telephone conversation with Putin remained only a word and was not implemented.
In his remarks published today, Macron also said Europeans must be ready to start talks “at the right time”.
He added: “What do we want? We want security guarantees for Ukraine, but we also have demands from the Europeans. including our own prosperity and future and the security architecture of Europe.”
