United Nations: Debris collection and waste management have begun in Gaza – Mehr News agency RCO News Agency
According to RCO News Agency, quoted by Al-Quds al-Arabi, Dujarric said: UN teams carried out 10 humanitarian operations yesterday in coordination with Israeli authorities in areas where Israeli forces are still present.
These measures made it possible to transfer the aid that arrived from the routes of Karam Abu Salem and Zikim, including food, vaccines, fuel and medical equipment.
Dujarric emphasized that the UN is ready to expand humanitarian operations in Gaza, but this requires the removal of existing restrictions.
Among the restrictions are the ban on the import of some equipment, such as debris clearing machinery and durable construction materials for shelters, as well as movement restrictions in some areas, which affect the ability of human teams to access essential areas.
Also, the United Nations Development Program has started collecting solid waste from gathering places in Gaza City and moving them to a temporary site with an area of about 75,000 square meters to facilitate waste management and improve health and environmental conditions in the Gaza Strip.
Reporters are expected to contact the UNDP team for more detailed information on logistics, disposal sites and related environmental criteria.
Dujarric also announced the continued facilitation of the passage of people through the Rafah crossing since its reopening in early February, and said that more than 500 people, including patients and their companions and some returning residents of Gaza, have been relocated.
In response to a question about restrictions, he explained that these restrictions include debris clearing equipment, some construction materials, and movement restrictions in specific areas.
He emphasized that the UN office will provide more detailed logistical information to journalists.
