According to the Mehr news agency, citing the base of the extra-regional Al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper, Zelensky emphasized in an interview that was published on Thursday in the “Atlantic” magazine that Ukraine is ready to hold presidential elections and a referendum on the peace agreement, but will not accept any agreement that harms Ukraine’s interests.
He added: “Our method is to make the Americans not think that we want to continue the war, that’s why we support all their proposals to speed up the process of reaching an agreement.”
Zelensky also noted: “Ukraine has no fear. Are we ready for elections? we are ready Are we ready for the referendum? We are ready.”
Ukraine’s president has signaled his efforts to build positive relations with Washington after a meeting in his White House office in February 2025 ended in a verbal spat with Trump and his deputy, J.K. D. Vance, led.
While rejecting recent reports of holding elections and a referendum on February 24, the fourth year anniversary of the Russian invasion, he said that some issues still remain unresolved, including a ceasefire and US security guarantees against any future invasion.
Zelensky emphasized: “No one is clinging to power. “I am ready for elections, but for this we need security, security guarantees and a ceasefire.”
