Financial Times: Zelensky will announce the election and referendum program soon.
The president of Ukraine intends to announce the schedule of holding presidential elections and a referendum on a possible peace agreement with Russia at the same time as the anniversary of the start of the war.
According to RCO News Agency, the Financial Times newspaper reported on Wednesday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky plans to announce the schedule of presidential elections and referendum on February 24.
The Financial Times, citing Ukrainian and European officials involved in the planning process, wrote that this plan will include announcing the timing of presidential elections and holding a referendum on a possible peace agreement.
Reuters reported last week that under the framework being discussed between US and Ukrainian negotiators, any peace deal in Ukraine would be put to a referendum and Ukrainian voters would simultaneously participate in national elections. In this report, it was stated that the authorities have discussed the possibility of holding the national elections and the referendum in May at the same time.
The Financial Times also reported, citing Ukrainian and Western officials familiar with the matter, that Ukraine has now begun planning to hold presidential elections at the same time as a referendum on a possible peace deal with Russia.
