Lavrov: Trump’s “Peace Council” cannot replace the United Nations
The Russian Foreign Minister announced that the “Peace Council” established by the American President to deal with the situation in Gaza cannot replace the United Nations and has a different nature from this international organization.
According to Isna, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today (Wednesday) that the Peace Council established by US President Donald Trump to resolve the situation in Gaza cannot replace the United Nations.
Asked if this council could replace the United Nations, Lavrov said: “No. This is a different matter.”
He added that the United States does not like the United Nations, regardless of its political affiliation, because in this institution you have to convince others and seek compromise.
Lavrov pointed to the UN body and continued: “They would like it to look like the Peace Council. They say we will organize it, they will decide for themselves and you will gather there and come to a conclusion about something.”
In January, Trump announced the formation of the “Peace Council” and invited the heads of about 50 countries to join it.
