Hill: Trump is the biggest threat to American national security
In an analytical note, the American media described Donald Trump as the biggest threat to national security and considered the solution to this problem to be the Republicans joining the Democrats in Congress to limit him and also the US people voting for the Democrats in the mid-term elections.
According to Isna, the Hill magazine affiliated with the US Congress wrote: “Donald Trump, the president of the United States, is the most serious threat to the national security of the United States, because no president or foreign enemy of the United States has tried so hard to weaken our ability to predict, prevent and respond to attacks by hostile countries.”
Trump is destructively dismantling the security infrastructure that has protected America and its allies since the end of World War II, and he has made America dangerously vulnerable to adversaries.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are no doubt thrilled that Trump is doing so much to undermine the United States for the benefit of their nations. But the American people should be outraged.
Hill went on to emphasize that Trump has irresponsibly diverted federal agencies from their mission of protecting America. He has eliminated thousands of national security jobs — including more than 60,000 civilian positions at the Department of Defense, about 2,000 jobs at the National Security Agency and more than 40 percent of the positions at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
In addition, more than 6,400 lawyers and other employees of the Ministry of Justice have left the job in 2025 as a result of resignation or dismissal.
Trump has also replaced many qualified senior officers and officials in the armed forces and in civilian national security positions, along with nearly everyone at the FBI and Justice Department involved in his criminal investigation and prosecution.
The president has also forced national security agencies to spend time, money and manpower investigating and prosecuting current and former government officials, journalists and others with whom he disagrees.
Mentioning many other cases of Donald Trump’s actions that have diverted the focus of the relevant agencies from performing their duties related to national security, Hill pointed out his policies of imposing trade tariffs on Washington’s close allies, humiliating them, threatening to withdraw from NATO, insufficient support for Ukraine, and claiming the annexation of Greenland and even Canada: these actions have destroyed America’s position as a reliable military and commercial partner. This has led many countries to seek closer economic and security ties with each other in order to be less dependent on the United States, to the detriment of the United States.
According to the American media, Trump seems to think that America is so rich and powerful that it does not need other countries at all and that he can force other governments to submit to his will by threats. He is wrong.
Hill added: America needs allies. Gone are the 19th century, when the Atlantic and Pacific oceans protected America. We now live in an economically interconnected world where we have many vital interests. A world where nuclear missiles can cross oceans and terrorists can attack a country with devastating effect.
The most important responsibility of any president is to protect the nation from deadly attacks, but Trump’s actions diminish this responsibility. As America’s worn-out national security establishment focuses on rounding up immigrants, investigating Trump’s enemies, and trying to prove his victory in the 2020 election, it may be ignoring signs that America’s enemies may be planning attacks perhaps worse than 9/11.
Emphasizing that “but the 79-year-old president of the United States will not change,” this publication saw the solution to this situation as congressional Republicans joining with Democrats to limit the amount of damage he can do to the nation, but unfortunately, most Republican lawmakers will probably stand by their man.
As a result, the best way for Americans to protect their national security is to vote for Democratic nominees for the House and Senate in November, Hill advised. If Democrats win majorities in both houses, they could put in place some much-needed checks and balances to limit Trump’s power and the enormous security threat he poses.
