According to the Mehr News Agency, quoted by the Guardian, British Prime Minister Kerr Starmer said: We must do more in the field of defense, and it is not only US President Donald Trump who believes that Europe should take more measures in this field, but other presidents also have the same opinion.

The British Prime Minister said: We are committed to increasing spending, but I think we should go further.

Starmer added: The need to strengthen the defense sector requires us to look at initiatives such as the European Union Defense Fund and other initiatives to see if there is a way through which we can cooperate more closely with each other.

In November 2025, Bloomberg reported, quoting informed sources, that the negotiations on the UK’s accession to the European Union’s defense fund had failed. According to these sources, the parties still do not agree on the amount of London’s financial participation in this initiative.
