According to RCO News Agency, quoted by Al Jazeera, Nouri al-Maliki, the candidate for the post of Iraqi Prime Minister, met with Joshua Harris, the charge d’affaires of the American Embassy in Baghdad, on Friday.

The government of law coalition affiliated with Nuri al-Maliki issued a statement and announced that the two sides discussed and exchanged views on strengthening relations between Iraq and the United States.

In this meeting, there was a discussion and exchange of views regarding the consultations between political groups in connection with the formation of the new government and the process of electing the president and prime minister.

It should be noted that American President Donald Trump has recently announced his opposition to Nouri al-Maliki’s candidacy for the post of Prime Minister by taking an interventionist position in Iraq’s internal affairs! This issue has caused a wave of negative reactions in Iraq.
