The rare golden-eyed duck was seen in the Jokundan wetland of Gilan

According to IRNA; The Deputy of Natural Environment and Biodiversity of the General Department of Environmental Protection of Gilan announced the sighting and recording of a protected and rare bird “golden eyed duck” (female) in Jokundan Talash Wetland located in the west of the province.

“Abbas Ashuri” announced this news on Tuesday and said:

The rare and protected species of golden-eyed duck (scientific name Bucephala clangula) was observed and recorded during the census of water birds in the wetlands of the province in Talash Jokundan Wetland.

He added:

This shy bird was seen in the shallow parts of the lagoon feeding with successive dips. The female golden-eyed duck has a chocolate-brown triangular series and a white collar; In terms of appearance, there is an obvious difference between the male and female of this species; So, in males, the neck and belly surface are white and the back and tail are completely black.

According to Ashuri, the color of the eyes in the female bird has caused the name of this bird (golden-eyed duck), and the male species of this species is called “white-cheeked duck” because of the white spot on the cheek.

The golden-eyed duck is on the list of Iran’s protected birds and has a high conservation value.
