The meeting of the director of the CIA with the interim president of Venezuela
An American official told CNN that John Ratcliffe, the director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), met with Venezuela’s interim president, Delsey Rodríguez, on Thursday in Caracas.
According to RCO News Agency, this informed American official said that Ratcliffe talked about possible opportunities for economic cooperation with the President of Venezuela and stressed that Venezuela can no longer be a patron for America’s enemies.
This meeting happened after US President Donald Trump said after the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro that he would take control of Venezuela’s oil resources and even rule the country.
Instead of backing Maria Corina Machado, head of the Venezuelan opposition party, Trump has endorsed Rodriguez, who served as Maduro’s deputy.
Meanwhile, Machado met with the American president on Thursday and even awarded him his Nobel Peace Prize.
Some informed sources have told CNN that Trump administration officials have told lawmakers that Maduro’s arrest was not an operation to change the regime and that the government under the leadership of Rodriguez has maintained its structure.
Another source said that the US government’s policy of supporting Rodríguez over Machado was mentioned in the CIA’s secret analysis of the effects of Maduro’s removal from the presidency of Venezuela and the short-term consequences of this action.
Multiple sources told CNN that the CIA was involved in plans to arrest Maduro. In August, several teams from this organization secretly entered Venezuela to track Maduro’s movements and the routes that the Venezuelan president takes.
