America’s withdrawal from 66 international organizations
The White House announced that the President of the United States has signed an executive order to withdraw the country from 66 international organizations.
According to Isna, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to withdraw the country from 35 non-UN organizations and 31 affiliated organizations that, according to him, “act against the national interests of the United States”.
In the statement published by the White House, the names of these institutions and organizations are not mentioned, but it is emphasized that these institutions “promote radical climate policies, global governance and ideological programs that are contrary to the sovereignty and economic power of the United States.”
It is also stated in this statement, “This decision is the result of a comprehensive review of all intergovernmental organizations, agreements and contracts in which the United States is a member or is one of the parties.”
According to “Reuters” News agency, the White House announced in the continuation of its statement, “These withdrawals will end the financing and participation of American taxpayers and the American government in financing institutions that have agendas contrary to American priorities or deal with important issues in a weak and ineffective way, because it is better to allocate American taxpayers’ funds in other ways to support the relevant missions.”
Since the beginning of the second term of his presidency, Trump has sought to reduce the financial support of the United States to the United Nations, and he has stopped the country’s participation in the United Nations Human Rights Council and extended the suspension of funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA).
The United States also withdrew from UNESCO and Trump announced plans to withdraw from the World Health Organization and the Paris Climate Agreement.
