Putin’s representative: I think America has made up its mind about Greenland
The head of Russia’s Direct Investment Fund and the country’s presidential special representative for economic cooperation with foreign countries said today (Tuesday) that the United States appears to be eyeing Greenland, suggesting that Canada may be the next option.
According to RCO News Agency, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, wrote on X social network (Twitter): “It seems that a decision has been made about Greenland. The EU will continue to do what its minions do best: monitor the situation and demonstrate double standards. Now is it Canada’s turn?”
According to Novosti News agency, this Russian official also mentioned the recent statements of US President Donald Trump’s Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller about Greenland.
Miller questioned the legitimacy of Denmark’s control over this area in his recent interview with CNN and did not rule out military action to annex the island.
Hours after the U.S. military intervention in Venezuela, Miller’s wife posted a picture on the X social network with a map of Greenland painted in the colors of the American flag with the caption “coming soon.”
In response, Denmark’s ambassador to Washington, Jesper Muller Sørensen, said that Denmark expects to respect the kingdom’s territorial integrity.
Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Fredrik Nielsen also called this image disrespectful.
Donald Trump has repeatedly said that Greenland should be part of the United States, citing the strategic importance of the island for national security and the presence of NATO in the Arctic region.
The President of the United States also considered Canada the 51st state of the United States.
