Patel: The FBI was involved in the arrest of Maduro
FBI Director Cash Patel announced on Monday that the FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team was involved in the operation that led to the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Celia Flores by the United States.
According to RCO News Agency, Patel said in an interview with “Fox News” news channel: “The forces of the hostage rescue team are a specialized tactical unit. They were deployed along with infiltration forces as well as in-sea forces to carry out this daring raid and arrest operation.
He further added that the FBI is responsible for the transfer of foreign detainees in order to “ensure the preservation of the person’s detention from the moment of arrest in ground operations to sea transfer and then air transfer.”
US President Donald Trump announced that Maduro and Flores will be tried on charges of participating in “narco-terrorism” and creating threats, including against the United States. Venezuela and Colombia demanded an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council in response to the hostile action of the United States.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, expressing solidarity with the people of Venezuela, called for the release of Maduro and his wife, as well as to prevent further escalation of the situation. After Moscow, Beijing also demanded the immediate release of Maduro and his wife, emphasizing that US actions violate international law.
