President of Colombia in response to Trump’s threat: I am ready to take up arms – Mehr News Agency | RCO News Agency
According to RCO News Agency, quoted by AFP, Colombian President Gustavo Petro said in response to the threats of US President Donald Trump: “Don’t threaten a fighter with war.” Ever since the end of the civil wars, I had vowed never to take up arms again, but now, against my own will, I am ready to take up arms in defense of my homeland.
Addressing the Armed Forces of Colombia, he added: Any soldier who prefers the American flag to the Colombian flag should leave the army.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia also called the threats of the American president unacceptable interference and demanded mutual respect between the two countries.
Although Colombia and the United States are key military and economic allies in the region, relations between the two countries have been strained, especially since the start of Trump’s second term, due to issues such as tariffs and immigration policies.
Yesterday, when asked if a Venezuela-style military intervention was on the cards for Colombia, Trump said: “I think it’s a good idea.”
