Pope’s reaction to America’s warmongering against Venezuela
The world’s Catholic leader says the well-being of Venezuelans must be a priority in the wake of US aggression against Caracas.
According to Isna, Pope Leo XIV, the leader of the world Catholics today (Sunday) after the overthrow of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in an American operation, said that the welfare of Venezuelans should be a priority and called for “guaranteeing the sovereignty of the country”.
The American Pope said after the Angelus prayer in St. Peter’s Square: “The welfare of the dear Venezuelan people must overcome all other considerations and lead to overcoming violence and stepping on the path of justice and peace and guaranteeing the sovereignty of the country…”
On Saturday, the United States military, with Donald Trump’s green light, launched aggressive attacks against Venezuela, and finally, after a few hours of conflict, they arrested Nicolás Maduro and his wife and transferred them to New York for trial on charges of drug trafficking.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bundy said the two men were charged with conspiracy to commit narcotics terrorism, conspiracy to import cocaine, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices against the United States.
Donald Trump’s illegal operation against Venezuela has provoked a wave of domestic and foreign criticism. In this regard, rallies have been held in more than 75 cities across the United States, where anti-war protesters have expressed their anger at the use of American taxpayers’ money to fuel the war-seeking policies of the United States.
