Axios: America has been plotting to remove Maduro for months
Contrary to what members of Trump’s cabinet had previously told lawmakers, the US had been considering removing Maduro for several months, the US website reported, citing several Trump advisers.
According to Isna, Axios News website stated that the removal of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was considered from the beginning as the main program of Donald Trump’s policy towards the country, and reported that Nicolas Maduro was ready for negotiations, but for “not for evacuation.”
This report is published in a situation where the American armed forces organized an illegal operation in Caracas with Trump’s green light on Saturday and eventually evacuated Maduro and his wife from the Venezuelan capital, along with missile attacks on the airport, ports and bases. This kidnapping operation brought a wave of domestic and foreign condemnations. Maduro has now arrived in New York and is scheduled to be arraigned.
At least 40 people, including military personnel and civilians, were killed in Saturday’s attack on Venezuela, according to a senior Venezuelan official who spoke to The New York Times.
News website Axios also reported a US official as saying that engagement with current officials in Caracas would continue, but the official acknowledged that Donald Trump may decide to launch another attack. Meanwhile, on Saturday, Trump rejected the possibility of a secondary attack in his press conference.
Currently, Maduro’s deputy, Delsey Rodríguez, has been named acting head of state and interim president. This is when Trump mentioned in his speech that a team is supposed to be formed by the United States to control and manage Venezuela, and his implicit reference was to his foreign and war ministers. He said that America will take over the administration of Venezuela until the transition period.
The American official also said that the Trump administration is looking for consultations with the top officials of the oil company about the expansion of production in Venezuela. The Wall Street Journal also claimed that American oil companies are ready to enter and invest in Venezuela. On Saturday, Trump said Venezuela’s oil export operations would soon resume, including to the United States, calling it “repayment” of Caracas’ alleged past debts to Washington.
Following the US military’s invasion of Venezuela, several members of the US Congress called the operation illegal. Also, the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced its intention to complain to international organizations about Washington’s actions and called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council, which is likely to be held tomorrow, Monday.
On the other hand, Axios reported, Maduro is expected to be held at Brooklyn’s notorious Metropolitan Detention Center. The federal prison is notorious for harsh and “inhumane” conditions and has housed notorious inmates including Joaquin Guzman, Sean Combs, Luigi Mangione and Ghislaine Maxwell.
