South Africa’s request to hold a Security Council meeting on Venezuela

Condemning the US military action against Venezuela and arresting the coury’s preside, the South African governme considered it a clear violation of the UN Charter and called for an urge meeting of the Security Council.
According to Isna, the South African governme announced on Saturday that it is deeply concerned about the “military attack” carried out by the United States of America against Venezuela and the arrest of the coury’s preside, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife.
The Ministry of Iernational Relations and Cooperation of South Africa emphasized in a stateme that the actions of the United States are a clear violation of the United Nations Charter; A charter that requires all member states to refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial iegrity or political independence of any coury.
This stateme states that the UN Charter does not issue any authorization for foreign military ierveion in matters that are esseially within the iernal jurisdiction of a sovereign state.
South Africa warned that historical experience has repeatedly shown that military invasion of independe couries only leads to instability and escalation of crises.
The ministry stated: “The illegal and unilateral use of force undermines the stability of the iernational order and the principle of equality among nations.” Accordingly, South Africa asks the UN Security Council to urgely hold a meeting to review the developmes in Venezuela.
According to reports, US military forces launched a series of attacks against Venezuela on Saturday morning, during which Nicolás Maduro and his wife were arrested and left the coury.
The US Attorney General has announced that Maduro will be tried in the US.
This military action against the South American coury has faced widespread iernational reactions, and a number of couries have demanded a global coordinated response and action against it.
